Living Collections
Highstead’s ecologically-minded approach in developing its native plant collections and plantings provide conservation and educational value, while the natural landscapes in which they are displayed provide important visual context to help visitors understand and interpret the forest types, environment and land use history of a southwestern Connecticut landscape.
Non-living Collections
Highstead maintains accurate and up-to-date plant accession records, maps, herbarium specimens, photographs, and library references. Collections that are well documented offer opportunities for scientific inquiry and enable Highstead to participate in a network of institutions that curate and preserve plants worldwide.
