Land Stewardship > Wildland Reserve

Wildlands provide multiple benefits.

  1. Serve as important scientific reference points against which to measure the impacts of forest management
  2. Provide insight into the natural dynamics that occur in the absence of direct human intervention
  3. Offer an important refuge for people seeking temporary escape from the din of civilization.

Fifteen acres of oak forest at Highstead is unmanaged. This area has no trails, structures, manipulative experimentsor active
management of any kind. Only very low impact research such as forest monitoring and occasional soil sampling is permitted.
