Stewardship, or management-driven monitoring, is applied ecological research in which management of the land is used as an experiment to study its effect on plants and animals. Monitoring is conducted to determine the success or outcome of the stewardship treatment and to facilitate improved management with new information over time.
Stewardship-driven monitoring is an important component of Highstead’s mission and the Wildlands & Woodlands vision. Our efforts help to provide practical information and guidance to landowners about the ways in which they can intentionally manage their own properties and anticipate the potential outcomes from their stewardship efforts.
